A statement

I’m Dave Bonnot (pronounced ba-KNOW), and I’m running for District 3 Supervisor.

In order to quickly create new jobs in Tuolumne County, we need to increase tourism. I will propose a new position of Events Coordinator or commissioner to immediately start creating events to fill the Fall and Spring months with events based on the vast historical resources and beauty of this county. If we can increase tourism 20% it would mean the possibility of hundreds of new jobs, and many new businesses. The Third District would gain the most from this approach, from Pinecrest and Dodge Ridge to Tuolumne, Twain Harte, Mi-Wuk Village and Sierra Village, we need more tourism, now.

Then we need to entice high tech and green industries to come up to the county. To do that, we need a better trained work force. More vocational training at the high school and college level. More workforce housing and childcare. Better schools. More proliferation of Broadband. We need high-speed internet to every nook and cranny of this county.

We need a grant writer for the county to attract the foundation and federal money being distributed for 21st century industry. Grants to fix our roads, our fire departments, our law enforcement. We need to be thinking creatively about sources of revenue. Taxaphobia has dried up the old sources of money to provide basic services, I will be innovative in seeking other ways to provide those services you expect!

I will use my experiences in land use planning to help us make better decisions about where to allow development. We have to preserve the beauty we all moved up here to enjoy while growing in a sustainable way. Growth is good and inevitable, but it can be done in a way that preserves our rural character and still allows developers to make money. Hundreds of communities have done it, we can too.

It takes experience to become a true leader. I’ve had 25 years experience as a business owner in Tuolumne County. I’ve been to war. I’ve raised two sons. It takes time to learn what works and what doesn’t when dealing with other people in important matters. It takes experience to be able to lead others to follow your ideas. I am the leader with the experience to actually get things done for the third district right away. I know the workings of county government and who the players are. I know who to go to for issues important to you. I know how to get things done.

For 30 years I’ve enjoyed living in Tuolumne County with the wonderful, caring people who share these beautiful surroundings. I’ve been involved with many local issues as a business owner, an involved parent, a professional artist and a concerned citizen. I’m a proud Vietnam Veteran, an experience that taught me sacrifice and service to my fellow citizens.

I believe in frugal government, efficient leadership and building a sustainable economy.  As the owner of a graphics company for 25 years, I’ve helped hundreds of local businesses with marketing and branding. I know what it takes to succeed: smart planning, healthy entrepreneurship, looking at all sides of issues and working together toward realistic solutions.

As your District 3 Supervisor, I will protect Tuolumne County’s unique character and work to find new revenue sources and creative solutions for our needs – from roads and safety to better opportunities for our citizens of all ages.

My priorities as supervisor:

BETTER JOBS – Good jobs that will secure our future and allow families to stay here. We need to move into the 21st century, looking for new ways to grow jobs from within as well as recruit high-tech industries. We need to finish extending high-speed internet to all, improve vocational education, and invest even more in our cultural assets: ranching, farming, recreation and the arts.

BETTER PLANNING – Tuolumne County supervisors need to support progress that sustains our community by encouraging the right projects in the right places – projects that move us forward to meet future needs and opportunities without sacrificing our county’s unique character. The ingredients are here – we need to use them wisely.

BETTER LEADERSHIP – We need to be forward-thinking in finding new sources of revenue and workable solutions to local issues. As your supervisor, I will listen to all ideas and concerns. With creative innovation, we can grow our economy and make this an even better place to live and work.

Get involved! We each have a role to play to create a better community!
